Review: Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder

Hi Everyone

Hope you all had a great weekend, hard to believe Monday again.

When I seen the fantastic makeup artist LMD (Louise McDonnell) using the Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder at a Sosueme event earlier this year and also more recently at an LMD masterclass last week in BTY Cosmetics, 5 Chichester Street, Belfast I finally got round to purchasing it and  I am so, so glad I did.

Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder, Translucent Extra Coverage was introduced back in 1935 by the French cosmetic company Coty.   The Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder comes in a hard plastic round jar with dark orange screw top patterned lid, does still look like an ‘older’ product (2.3oz/65g £13 in BTY),  and is available in a number of different shades – the following shades are available in BTY Cosmetics Belfast. Translucent, Translucent Extra Coverage and Naturally Neutral (when in stock).

I purchased Translucent 070-24 as prefer a translucent finishing powder with my pale skin but if you have a darker skin tone you may prefer one of the different shades (although may not be that much difference as lady in shop advised she did not really notice a lot of difference between the different shades she stocks).

 Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder claims to have the following benefits:

  • Hides tiny lines, wrinkles & blemishes;
  • Gives a new softness to the skin;
  • Can be used to set make-up or as a foundation;
  • Long lasting

Product / Application / Results

First of all I have to say there is a strong smell of the product once you take the protective cover of which I know some people may not like but I do not mind as it smells to me personally like a Max Factor Crème Puff Powder Foundation Compact that my Granny / Mother used to use so it holds v special memories for me but if this was not the case I may find the fragrance a bit strong initially as well.

It is a finely milled powder that feels so soft on your skin.  Very impressed with amount of product in the jar, there is a sifter over the top to avoid too much product coming out so need to tap some product onto to the lid  and then apply; although there is a puff provided I prefer to apply with a powder brush all over my face and smaller brush for under my eyes and over my eye shadows, can use a damp beauty blender to apply under the eye area as well.  You need v little product as if you use too much it will take a bit more blending so apply smaller amounts at a time.  Because of the useful tips I have learned at makeup master classes  I apply at each stage throughout makeup application; over concealer to set if have blemishes, over under eye concealer, over eye shadow and lightly on eyeliner.  Yesterday I also applied very lightly over my lipstick and then applied another coat on top and it definitely helped my lipstick to last longer.

I am so impressed with this product, love it already, far exceeded my expectations.  I have used other finishing powders in the past and although thought they were good none impressed me enough to want to let everyone know about them.  After application I feel your makeup looks more vibrant as long as you do not put too much on and my makeup definitely lasts longer especially around t-zone, under the eyes.  Also helps my eye shadow, eyeliner last longer and my skin does not feel ‘clogged’ up as other powders seem to make my skin feel.  My skin also does seem to feel smoother after use.

I personally would not use as a ‘foundation’ even in a different colour as do not like the feel of just applying a loose powder to my ‘bare’ face unless it is the Bare Minerals foundation.    Fine lines and blemishes do appear less noticeable but would not agree that it ‘hides’ them, more blurs them but definitely does not accentuate them as some finishing powders can.   However may try the extra coverage one to see if any difference.   My daughter who has normal to dry skin (I have combination) has also used this product for the same amount of time and she is also impressed as well and does not mind the fragrance either but this is also due in part to our ‘special memories’.

I definitely would recommend trying this product for your self as although the packaging may not be very exciting and fragrance bit strong initially, I do not think you will be disappointed with the results.  However try to smell it prior to purchasing  if you can due to the fragrance but as I have said before I do not mind it & after application the strong fragrance does not last long but know it may put some people off purchasing / using it.   The nearest product to this for me is the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder (29g RRP £29) and although it is good and has no strong fragrance it is a lot more expensive, less product and I personally find it not quite as good as this Coty powder.

If you live locally and are able to call into BTY Cosmetics Belfast you will be able to try this product out for yourself prior to purchasing (phone beforehand though as this product is v popular and can be out of stock at times).   If not, hope you have a store near you that stocks this as well.   Not many UK online stores appear to be stocking it at the moment but it is available on

If you use this powder already would love to know what you think of it, do you like it as much as me?

If you are not already a follower would love you to follow my blog too – would mean a lot – intend to have more posts up during the week.

Hope you all have a fantastic week.

Thank you and take care.

Best wishes Liz x

    It does look exactly like the sort of product my Granny would have had on her dresser. My Scottish one and I have recently found out that both of my Grandfathers grandparents were from County Antrim and although I have never been to Ireland I believe that is Belfast so maybe my Great Great Granny had some extremely old version of this. My skin is difficult with powder generally even Laura Geller so I tend to avoid them even though I would love to wear it. It can look lovely.

      Hi Susie Thank you, sounds very like it. Packaging may put some people off as it is not the most exciting, does look like an ‘older’ product, one you would have seen in the past in photos and that was putting me off slightly as well. However v impressed now I have finally purchased. I understand totally as I have not been a great fan of powders either as found them bit heavy in the past. Hope you have a great week take care and chat soon x💕
