Review: Birchbox October 2017

Hi Everyone

I received my ‘Feeling Good’ October 2017 Birchbox last week.    In honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month Birchbox is working with the charity CoppaFeel this month – do love the design of the box this month.

img_6549-1

Birchbox is a monthly subscription box which costs £12.95 (inclusive of p&p) per month and 3, 6 & 12 monthly subscriptions are also available.  Usually five personalised beauty treats are included each month.

 img_6564

This month every subscriber either received a ModelCo Treat subscribers were / are able to choose either a contour stick or a mascara, a Balance Me Pure Skin Face Wash  and a Birchbox Exclusive  Anatomicals Grap Your Melons Shower Gel.   A product  / beauty information booklet, a code for £10 off a £50 spend (see below) and the following three products were also included in my box:

img_6551img_6565

Anatomicals ‘boob tube grab your melons’ shower gel in Bomb Shell (50ml- FULL SIZE RRP £1.50)  – have received a number of Anatomicals products before in beauty boxes and although have used them, have not been that impressed that have went on to purchase any of them – however this shower gel does smell refreshing and a shower gel is always useful and handy size as well for travelling;

Nuxe 48hr Moisturising Cream for Normal Skin   (Sample Size – 15ml) – Full Size is 50ml RRP £26 – a number of Nuxe products in beauty boxes recently – this cream does feel lovely on skin and has a citrus fragrance, sinks into skin really quickly and skin does feel soft after using but need to use for a longer period of time to give a full review – my favourite product from the Nuxe range is the Nuxe Multi Huile Prodigieuse OR Multi-Usage Dry Oil Shimmer;

 *SPOILER* November Sneak Peek – states that next month’s selection of beauty treats have been handpicked from the Vogue 100 Beauty Hall of Fame – chosen by Vogue Beauty Editors past and present

Although this months box was not my favourite box and I was slightly disappointed, it still was good value for money.  However I have been thinking of unsubscribing as have not been overly excited about a number of recent boxes and have so many products to use up (the August box was the best for me recently), but because of next months theme and high expectations for the Christmas box I am going to wait till after the December box to make up my mind whether to unsubscribe or not.

If you are thinking of  subscribing to Birchbox UK – you can get £5 off your first box -(box is normally £10 +£2.95 shipping – you will get for £5 +£2.95 shipping) by clicking  link here and then copy and paste code at checkout to get your discount.    You can also get a free  rose gold Spectrum Collections brush when you order your October Birchbox  (*photo below),  just add the code MARBLE at checkout to get free gift.4d9df0899b944772b9233cf428a53013

Look forward to any comments you may have – if you have received this month’s box would love to know what you thought.

If you are not already a follower would love you to follow my blog too – would mean a lot.

Thank you – enjoy the remainder of the weekend – more posts will be up later today /tomorrow.

Review: Seoulista Beauty ‘Instant Facial’ Sheet Masks

Hi Everyone

I was delighted recently to v kindly receive four Seoulista Beauty ‘Instant Facial’ Sheet Masks (RRP £7.99 each) to try *(PR sample).    I had never heard about the range so was intrigued – you can find out more details here.

States, Seoulista Beauty Instant Facials are free from parabens, mineral oil, sulphates and artificial colours.  Each packet contains one face mask and as usual you  cleanse your face thoroughly first, then you are advised to remove face mask from packaging, unfold, and peel off protective film.  Press the mask to your face and peel off the outer layer (this is the same for all the masks with the exception of the charcoal one, no backing to remove, a cloth style mask), then smooth to fit facial contours. Allow the serum to infuse for 20 minutes before removing. Do not wash off. Smooth the remaining serum into the skin.

I am going to let you know the results I got with each mask underneath each one – however going to include a full summary at bottom of what I actual thought of the masks themselves.

1. Brightening

Described as:

  • Naturally derived coconut mask infused with vitamin C & AHA’s;
  • exfoliates & hydrates the skin;
  • contains antioxidants to fade & repair dark spots & pigmentation; and
  • correct & brightens your skin tone
Off white mask – Did feel refreshing on my skin, no irritation and did leave my skin feeling hydrated and looking brighter but would not say really helped to exfoliate my skin and unable to judge if fades and repairs dark spots & pigmentation as I am lucky and do not have either.  But I was happy that I could use the extra serum in the packet to treat my neck & hands as well.  May purchase this mask.

2.  Super Hydration

Described as:

  • Naturally derived coconut mask infused with hyaluronic acid;
  • intensely hydrating & instantly plumping;
  • contains antioxidants to defend against ageing; and
  • improves skin elasticity, smoothness & radiance.
Off white mask – Also felt refreshing on skin and I did feel that this mask was working more on my skin, a v slight tingling feeling but not uncomfortable.  My skin did look more radiant and refreshed after I removed it and my skin did feel lovely and soft, not sure about the plumping element though. Again able to use the extra serum in the packet to treat my neck & hands as well.    Will purchase this mask.

3. Correct & Calm

Described as:

  • Naturally derived coconut mask infused with witch hazel and eucalyptus leaf;
  • perfect for minor breakouts;
  • irritation & redness;
  • cools, hydrates & balances skin; and
  • helps to minimise large pores.
Off white mask – Felt cooling on skin and did feel this mask was working on my skin as well but again not uncomfortable.  My skin did feel cleaner, hydrated and a slight blemish did seem less irritated, however pores round my nose did not look any different / minimised, but again able to use the extra serum in the packet to treat my neck & hands as well.  Not sure I will purchase this mask.

4. Charcoal Detox

Described as:

  • Naturally derived bamboo mask infused with charcoal & volcanic ash;
  • frees skin from toxins & impurities;
  • rich in minerals to deep cleanse & hydrate the skin;
  • helps to refine skin & minimise pore size.
Black cloth type mask felt more comfortable on the skin, my favourite out of the four.  This one also fitted better and I could have relaxed and kept it on for longer.  My skin did feel it had got a deeper cleanse but also still felt hydrated.   Pores round the nose also appeared less noticeable.  Will definitely purchase this mask.

Overall

There was a slight fragrance of all of the masks but none were overpowering, there is a lot of serum on the masks & inside the packet which is great but makes it quite difficult to remove the backing prior to and after applying the mask to your face. Mask does smooth down ok and fits quite well but not just as good a fit as some other sheet masks I have tried, (this was the same for all the masks with the exception of the charcoal one).  I preferred the charcoal mask on my skin as felt more comfortable and could have left on longer period of time, the other three I was happy when it was time to remove them as just could not relax the same with them.

For each mask it states not to wash off smooth remaining serum into skin and wait 30 minutes before applying makeup – however for me personally this was not possible skin still felt too tacky uncomfortable for applying makeup over.  I found it better and would recommend applying any of the masks in the evening prior to bed and then you can just smooth any remaining serum into the skin and let it work overnight and rinse off in the morning again.

Although I enjoyed trying all the masks, they are reasonably priced, perfect for travelling and would recommend trying for yourself there are only two of them I would definitely go out and purchase now, the Charcoal & the Super Hydration but that is just personal choice so you may prefer one of the others more.

Your can purchase from a number of stores, including Gordonsdirect.com – for a list of stockists please see link here.

Look forward to any comments you may have.   If you are not already a follower would love you to follow my blog too – would mean a lot.  Will have more posts up over the weekend.

Thank you – take care and hope you have a great weekend.

Best Wishes Liz x

Review: Benefit Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer & Offer

Hi Everyone

Hope you had a great weekend – although doesn’t Sunday night come around v quickly again.

I had intended to do a short review on the Benefit Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer v soon but  there is currently an offer on where you can get the opportunity to try it for yourself for ‘FREE’, prior to purchasing so decided to post now instead, more on this great offer later but now to the concealer itself.

The Benefit Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer is a sheer to medium coverage concealer and full size is £17.50 for 5g.  It comes in a jar with a dusky pink screw on top with silver tone bottom and is available in the following 3 shades:

  • Shade No. 1 – Light;
  • Shade No. 2 – Light-Medium; and
  • Shade No. 3 – Medium.

I purchased the Full Size in No 1 – light previously (photo below of deluxe sample size) and when you first see the shade initially, does not look as light as you would expect but I find it blends really well.

It has a lovely creamy consistency which I find applies with  a creamy powder finish.  I find it is better applied with your fingers under the eyes, on blemishes as this way product is warmed and blends easier does not leave any ‘harsh’ lines.  Initially it has a sheer coverage but it is buildable and with a few light applications it does make blemishes less noticeable.

Although states  it is  ‘“real-life retouch” This soft-focus, lightweight concealer covers imperfections with a flawless finish that’s virtually undetectable’  I do not totally agree with these claims as stated above although concealer is buildable you need to work at it  to make imperfections/blemishes less noticeable.

Photo of one application over freckle on arm:

Photo below of few applications over freckle by patting on with fingertip – hardly noticeable:

I prefer personally to apply over either my Collection or Sephora creamy concealers under the eyes to cover ‘darkness’ as find they work well together as when I apply the airbrush concealer under the eye alone it does settle a bit in fine lines but another way round this is to mix with a little eye cream and this helps to avoid this happening.  However I do find this concealer is so handy for ‘touch ups’ throughout the day, if needed.

Current ‘FREE’ Sample Offer

I definitely would recommend trying this concealer for yourself but as I have combination skin not sure how well would work on drier skin – however at the moment there is the perfect way to try for yourself prior to purchasing if you live near a House of Fraser store with a Benefit counter.

Currently you can get a FREE Boi-ing Airbrush Concealer (1.6g deluxe sample) to try when you take any old concealer from any brand to a benefit counter at House of Fraser.    Sales assistant will just take your concealer from you and in return with give you your free sample (will last ages – see photo of it below).   I think this offer is due to end on 15th October 2017, or while stocks last  so the quicker you can get into your nearest House of Fraser Benefit counter the more chance the sample will still be available (if this offer finished they may have a sample slip in a ‘card’ you could try).

Hope this helps – love to hear if you have tried this concealer already or already got your ‘FREE’ sample to try.

Thank you for looking  and look forward to any comments you may have – if you are not already a follower would love you to follow my blog too – would mean a lot.  Will have more posts up later in the week.

Take care – Hope you all have a great week.

Best wishes Liz x

Debenhams Beauty Club – ‘New’ Monthly Rewards/Treats

Hi Everyone

I have mentioned before that another great way to get further offers / rewards when you shop is making sure you sign up to dedicated stores incentive/rewards schemes, clubs.   One such ‘club’, reward scheme is the Debenhams Beauty Club.

Although I was happy with the additional benefits I had received previously through signing up / using my Debenhams Beauty Club card i.e. additional points to spend through Bonus Points Events, free Benefit brow wax in my birthday month etc., recently Debenhams have made further changes ‘to improve our experience’– please see some of the changes below and via link here for full details of the rewards scheme/benefits.

BeautyClub_FAQs_desktop_Reward.jpg

However the main change I was most excited about was the monthly Exclusive Beauty Samples – this new ‘perk’ was due to start end of September 2017 – to be notified via our emailed monthly beauty club statement.    I was not completely sure how this was going to work but was over the moon when I checked my statement and seen the following offer at the bottom of it:

FinalBeautyBanner.jpg

Could not believe how good the first offer was – Four FREE Kat Von D deluxe samples; Saint & Sinner Eau de Parfum Sprays 4.5ml each, Tattoo Liner in Trooper Black 0.2ml & k-dub Long Lasting Lipstick 3ml, just by showing your Debenhams Beauty Club card at the fragrance check out, at your local Debenhams.    I was v lucky and got mine but know they were going quickly so if you have not got a chance to collect your ‘FREE TREATS‘ yet need to be v quick, as samples will be given out on a first come, first served basis and this offer started on Friday 29th September.

Hope you all get yours and also make sure you keep an eye out on next month’s beauty club statement to see what new treats we can claim.

Loving this new monthly ‘perk’ and so, so impressed with the samples we got this month.  This is a lovely treat each month to look forward to, like getting a small monthly beauty bag but at no additional cost.

If you are not already signed up to the Debenhams Beauty Club definitely worth checking out and signing up as no additional cost just additional benefits for yourself when you purchase and now monthly treats as well.

Love to know if you managed to get your monthly ‘treats’ yet or let me know if you do – are you as impressed as me with the new ‘enhancements’.

Thank you – take care and enjoy the rest of the weekend.  If you are not already a follower would love you to follow my blog too – would mean a lot.  I will have more posts up later today or tomorrow.

My Little ‘Rouje’ Box – September 2017

Hi Everyone

Monday again – hope you all had a great weekend but it just goes past too quickly.

I received the September 2017 My Little Box on Saturday, bit later this month.   The theme for this month’s box is  La Vie En Rouje’   – As always the box, cards, print, packaging coordinated perfectly in line with the theme but missing the lovely ‘quote’ sticker inside this month’s box again.     The box costs £14.95 (inclusive of p&p) per month (but as said before always check to see if any offers on first, if thinking of subscribing).

Although a slightly ‘plainer’ design this month still love it, v ‘chic’ and the red / cream theme v in fashion at the moment as well.  There also is a bigger booklet / type magazine included this month which I like.

 Included in this months box are:

A ‘My Little Box’ Rouje T-Shirt –  this is a fine white cotton t-shirt with Les filles en Rouje embossed on front – I think is a S/M t-shirt and although it does fit me will not be suitable for everyone –  I am happy to see this included as I cannot have enough white t-shirts perfect with jeans, skirts, trousers tucked in or worn out;

No ‘My Little Box’ drawstring pouch again this month instead the following three ‘beauty’ items came in a red and cream ‘My Little Box – Bons baisers de Jeanne’ patterned paper bag:

My Little Beauty Rouge Lipstick (FULL SIZE)  love the design on the packaging and it is a lovely red  lipstick with blue undertone.  Does feel nice on the lips, lovely colour, although does stain slightly but I find that with most red lipsticks anyway – perfect for this time of year and in line with this months theme;

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Purpose Dry Oil for Face, Body and Hair (Sample Size 10ml) although do like this multi task product (though prefer for hair & body ) think I may have received it in a previous box as well – although still handy size for travelling;

Nuxe Prodigieux Precious Scented Shower Oil (Sample Size 30ml) – Another Nuxe product, one I have tried before and although I do like it not my favourite shower oil but nice for when you have that special night out as has a shimmer as well so perfect to use in combination with the oil above.

As always do like the theme this month and  although still v good value  slightly disappointed again this month with the contents , definitely feel there is something missing compared to the majority of My Little Boxes I have had previously (had similar thoughts last month as well).  As although I do love this months t-shirt and like the My Little Box Lipstick  bit disappointed with the beauty items this month as although it is nice to have coordinating products think it would have been better to include another brand or an additional makeup item.  Also prefer a drawstring bag as I find them so handy for re-using, taking on holidays, carrying items in my handbag, so hoping more will be included in future boxes.   I also  think another ‘accessory’ item would have helped this box as well.  Not my favourite box to date but then my expectations are high from past boxes.

Any queries / comments please let me know, also if you received this months box would love to know what you thought of it?

If you are not already a follower would love you to follow my blog too – would mean a lot.  I will have more posts up later in the week.

Hope you have a great week.

Thank you & take care.

Review: Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate

Hi Everyone

As I have said before I love a lot of the products from the Kiehl’s range (will be posting reviews on other products from their range v soon) and although the Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate was not a product that I initially noticed or thought I needed in my skincare routine, when one of the Kiehl’s consultants advised this might be a product that might help with my recent skincare concerns; skin looking slightly dull and tired looking due in part to lack of sleep, not drinking enough water, long periods in offices with air conditioning/heating, I decided I needed to try it properly, so just went ahead and purchased – I am so, so glad I did now.

Described as:

A serum concentrate that gives new life to dull, tired skin’.

Key Benefits:

  • Plump Skin;
  • Smoothing the appearance of fine lines and texture;
  • significantly reducing the look of dull, tired-looking skin.

Directions:

  • Dispense one pump into hand;
  • Apply evenly to clean skin before moisturizer in the morning and at night;
  • May also be used on the eye contour (which I personally think is fantastic as not many other serums can be used on this area as well).

It comes in a 50 or 75 ml white hard plastic tall cylinder container with white push on cap and pump applicator which I always prefer and costs £41 for 50 ml & £54 for 75 ml– V practical packaging as is the case with all Kiehl’s products.   I decided to go with the larger size as an offer was on and better value this way as well.

The serum is a dull off white colour, creamy liquid consistency and has a v slight clinical type fragrance hard to say what it actually smells off but definitely not too over powering.  Consistency is not what I would usually expect from a ‘serum’.   I applied / apply one pump to clean skin both night and morning, including neck and eye contour area and was surprised how far one pump went, as once you apply it turns into more of liquid texture and spreads so easily, feels like you are giving your skin a drink of water with added benefits.  It does not completely sink into the skin but  is non greasy, just leaves your skin feeling and looking totally hydrated prior to even applying other serums/moisturisers.   I usually leave for few minutes and then it is the perfect base, like a pre-skincare primer, for applying the rest of your skincare (including eye cream) and makeup.

Oh my goodness I adore the way  this serum makes my skin feel and look.  I find my skin feels smooth to the touch, serum helps give my skin a boost, looks more revitalised, skin also does look plumper, fines lines do appear less noticeable and also helps my skin / makeup to look more refreshed throughout the day and even at the end of a tiring day.  I also find when I apply at night under my Antipodes Face Divine Oil and any night-time moisturiser, my skin  and around my eyes do appear more refreshed, slightly plumper & brighter in the morning even with little sleep.   I also find even when you cleanse your face and apply this serum alone your skin feels totally hydrated, does not even feel that you need to apply any other skincare, although I do.

I will definitely be repurchasing and I would recommend trying especially if you have similar concerns to what I had, prior to trying – however ask  for a sample to try first before purchasing if you can, as sometimes they will have sample sachets in store but if not and if you have a small pot they will put some product in it for you from their tester.

I definitely would recommend calling into a Kiehl’s store if you can as I personally love this store, the staff in our local Belfast, N Ireland store are fantastic, provide excellent customer care, are so knowledgeable, helpful without being pushy which is the perfect balance and which I love – there also is a great atmosphere in this store everyone seems v happy/enjoys  being there which makes your shopping experience even more enjoyable.  However if you have no store near you or are unable to call in,  you can purchase at a number of online stores including:

  • Kiehl’s £41-£54 – where there always offers on with a set spend & you also get to choose 3 samples with any purchase.

Look forward to any comments you may have.  Have you tried this serum before and if so would love to know what you think – do you like it as much as me?

If you are not already a follower would love you to follow my blog too – would mean a lot.

Thank you – take care.

This month I had more credits to spend as a friend had v kindly signed up using my link  which meant I got an additional 60 credits and my friend got 30 extra creditsTherefore I was able to get the following products; though still did not spend all my credits this month so can carry them over to October.

PMD Kiss Lip Plumping System  – 60 Credits (FULL SIZE RRP £125 (however available on-line both cheaper and more expensive) The following was included: – PMD Kiss Device, Smart Lip plumping Serum;   2 Changeable Kissers (Small & Large);  USB Charging Cord &  1-Year Warranty.   Could not resist selecting this product as you are really getting it for only £10 plus postage although I really got it for free with my friends referral credits.  I also thought this was the perfect way to try this product as was intrigued but bit apprehensive as well, although would not have bought at RRP price or reduced price.  I intend to do a full review post once I get a chance to try properly.  States: Kiss uses patent pending pulsating vacuum technology to safely plump the look of lips and serum work with Kiss to create dramatic results including increased loom of lip volume; also advises visibly plumps in minutes and results last hours:  (unfortunately these are all gone now);

Look forward to any comments you may have – if you have received this month’s bag / selection would love to know what you chose / thought.

If you are not already a follower would love you to follow my blog too – would mean a lot.

Thank you – enjoy the rest of the week and take care.

Best Wishes Liz x
